Hi, my name is Sharon Weaver Vitter (email address sharon.vitter@gmail.com
jeffvitter@gmail.com), and I’m writing to ask for some help in resolving
some issues in my lineage regarding the ancestors of Jacob Joachim Weaver
and Magdalena Oberholtzer in Switzerland.

My 4th great grandfather Jacob Joachim Weaver (8 June 1748–16 November
1820) was born in 1758 in Switzerland. In 1767, Jacob emigrated to
Philadelphia from Rotterdam on the ship Sally.  He married Magdalena
Oberholtzer from Lancaster County around 1773.  They then made their way to
Somerset County, Pennsylvania, where the family settled.  Succeeding
generations moved first to Holmes County, Ohio and then to Miami County,
Kansas, where I was born.  Some branches remained in Holmes County.  Jacob
Joachim Weaver's great-grandson Martin S. Weaver (my great grandfather) was
born in Holmes County, Ohio and was the first settler of the Weaver family
to settle in Kansas.

I have Jacob Weaver’s parents as being Johann Heinrich Weaver (1703–1755)
and Anna Gertrude Sasse (1707–1760), both born in Zurich and died in
Pennsylvania.  Some online genealogies have Johann Heinrich’s parents as
John Weaver and Elizabeth Cooke, but that doesn’t seem possible since they
seem to have been born in Virginia.

I have Magdalena Oberholtzer’s parents as Jacob Oberholtzer (1698–1760) and
Barbara Kilhefer (1706–1790) from Pfalz, Warburg, Hoxter,
Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany and Haguenau, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France,
respectively, and dying in Lancaster County and Bucks County,
respectively.

I can’t find any relation between our Weaver family and the huge
Weber/Weaver clan of Weaverland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  Rev.
Jageli Heinrich Weber (Jakob Henry Weber, January 1688–25 January 1747) and
his wife Anna Cecelia Bauman (1703–11 February 1777) are some of the
founders of the Lancaster County clan; they emigrated from Rotterdam to
Philadelphia sometime in the range 1710–1717 and settled in Lancaster
County.  They are well documented on the web, e.g., at FindaGrave.com
http://findagrave.com/.  It’s possible they are related to my Weaver
branch from back in Switzerland, but we don't know currently of any
relation.  All were Mennonites.

Any help you can provide about Jacob Joachim Weaver’s and Magdalena
Oberholtzer’s further ancestors in Europe would be welcome, especially if
we can connect them somehow to the Weber/Weaver clan of Lancaster County.
And any other info you have for our family tree, including about the
younger generations, would be most welcome.

I also have an extensive Kauffman line of ancestors that I’ll send a note
about in a separate message.

my husband's (JeffreyVitter) account.  The vitter.org site has lots of
other information about our family, including a couple dozen histories we
wrote on the Relativity Research page.  For example, here is a short
history about Jacob Weaver and his emigration to the USA:
