Useful information especially for newer members

As I have been speaking with members who are up for renewals this year, I am reminded of other conversations I have had with relatively new members in the past.  And it has become apparent that many of our less experienced members do not realize that the SAGA Databases are not static depositories of information.  In fact, our information is alive with updates all the time.
The issue is some people think that once they search on a name/relative, that there is nothing more to be had.  One member told me that they did not find anything about their relative in the databases.  I asked who they were looking for and discovered that there was a whole lot more than they ever found.  When walking them through the process, they realized that new information had been updated in the database they had once used and was very much surprised.

So it behooves one to repeat searches they may have once done on a name/relative from time to time, as new information is often added, corrected, or expanded.  That is one reason why we post when updates to specific databases are made.  For instance, you can see when Loren Johns has last updated his database, or Kidron theirs, or Thelma Martin her database.  Many of these members follow obituaries, weddings, birth announcements published in many newspapers.  Member Robert Fish reads many newspapers and passes Anabaptist related information on to many database owners.

I know the more experience genealogists among us know this already, but I wanted to make this clear for all those who may not understand how our information is collected.  And yes, many of our members still glean and collect information the traditional way by researching historical records, books, and publications like Mennonite Family History and the Pennsylvania Historical Society's quarterly publications .Hoosierly Yours,
