I see the listserv is to be working. Is there something I need to do to
receive these. I have not gotten any postings since the first test ones.

Agree with Thelma! I never got the “subscriptions that need renewed” list
that has been going out at the end of the year. I sent my money in a few
weeks ago, and still have not heard back, nor can I log into the website.

Hoping someone will see this and respond! Thanks!

I initially got an email that said I was subscribed but then another email
that said I was unsubscribed. However, I am receiving these posts. FYI

James Hermsen can take care of issues with logins – I’m sure that he’ll respond to this off-list.

If you’re not receiving emails from this list, it’s because nobody is sending emails to the list. I would tend to not send too many, because we have some members who get super-annoyed at getting a lot of email from it (they will often ask to be removed).  However, I’m sure that we have some members that like a chatty list, and a long time ago we used to have a member who would start controversial topics just to get folks riled up and talk more.  I don’t think that we should pick fights, and would prefer that we all treat each other with respect and understanding.

If you have a topic for everybody, then go ahead and send it!

Hope that answers your questions…

From time to time, for the fun of the chase, I will research some
genealogical data on some person. My question is, if I want to give that
data to someone for their database, how do I do that? One database said it
was closed, and I should just put the new data in my own database and
submit it. So, how is that doen? There seems to be different fille formats,
which ones does SAGA support?

Thanks.  --Richard

The only database that is closed is Jim Hostetler's (deceased) database.  But even for his, when someone submits a correction to his database, that request is redirected to me.  I make every attempt that if that information can be found in someone else's database or fits into their database, I submit that information to those database owners with the suggestion.  I have seen one member make the correction with a not that it corrects information in Jim's database based upon....

To submit your own database, one needs to export it to a file using the ged.com format.  (Most programs will give you that option when exporting the information.)   Then depending upon the size of the file, it can be attached to an email and sent to the SAGA Webmaster (omiisaga@gmail.com).

A few databases are too large to send in an attachment.  Here you have two options:  Either send the file on a disc or thumb drive to the Webmaster or better yet put it up in the cloud and send the webmaster the password to pull it down.  Further information regarding this information can be addressed to the Webmaster.

As for receiving ListServ notices: some members have unsubscribed either intentionally or unintentionally.  The first week we were setting up the ListServ, a few people (mostly board members) were unsubscribed only as testing the process and they were re-subscribed automatically.

Those who did not renew their memberships by January were not included, when they renew their memberships they are added to the ListServ.

Database Profiles:

We have 603 users (members)

There are 6, 291,549 individuals listed in the databases representing 2,023,015 families

351,363 recorded places (some places may be duplicates pending how it was entered in the database For example, any misspellingof a place name will appear as a new location.)

30,476 resources are sited.

 Thanks for the info, James.

As to my database questions, of course, And of course, Jim Hostetler's database would be the one I first checked. 🤔 At the moment, the info I found was not a correction as such but an extension. There were only two databases with this one person in them whose family I can now extend by a bit. So, I'll try sending it to the other person and to you.

 Again, thanks. --Richard

To submit your own database, one needs to export it to a file using thehttp://ged.com format. (Most programs will give you that option when exporting the information.) Then depending upon the size of the file, it can be attached to an email and sent to the SAGA Webmaster ( omiisaga@gmail.com mailto:omiisaga@gmail.com ).

     Hoosierly yours,

If you’re not receiving emails from this list, it’s because nobody is sending emails to the list. I would tend to not send too many, because we have some members who get super-annoyed at getting a lot of email from it (they will often ask to be removed). However, I’m sure that we have some members that like a chatty list, and a long time ago we used to have a member who would start controversial topics just to get folks riled up and talk more. I don’t think that we should pick fights, and would prefer that we all treat each other with respect and understanding.

If you have a topic for everybody, then go ahead and send it!

         Hope that answers your questions…

         Troye

Agree with Thelma! I never got the “subscriptions that need renewed” list that has been going out at the end of the year. I sent my money in a few weeks ago, and still have not heard back, nor can I log into the website.

Hoping someone will see this and respond! Thanks!
