They make their money by signing up everyone who downloads the free software into their Legacy Video Webinar series, which is an annual subscription. Many software companies are realizing that they can make more money through annual subscriptions than they can through one-time sales for life.
You can opt out of the annual subscription, but that requires both a reading of the fine print and personal initiative.

Legacy up until this version had both a free version and a deluxe version
that was a paid version.
For some all they ever wanted was what was available in the free version
Money made by purchasing add on programs, webinar subscriptions and
subscriptions to myheritage.com is what will cover this totally free
version.
This version is what would have been considered the deluxe version.
Legacy has always been incredible about being affordable - going for making
less on each sale and gaining more over all sales.
I have used Legacy for over 2 decades and been a beta tester for them for
over a decade (no compensation)
What always amazed me is that over the years they consistently did updates
and every update was free until they officially made it with some major
changes and called it a new version number. It was years between each
versions before you had to pay for the upgrade, which is something that
always amazed me.
This free version 10 was a total surprise to the beta testers. Some thought
it was a thank you to beta testers.
But finding out it was free for everyone was just amazing.

updates and every update was free until they officially made it with
some major changes and called it a new version number. It was years
between each versions before you had to pay for the upgrade, which is
something that always amazed me.
This free version 10 was a total surprise to the beta testers. Some
thought it was a thank you to beta testers.
But finding out it was free for everyone was just amazing.

The Legacy webinar series is great. You can watch them for free when live
or for a short time afterwards but you don’t get the handouts.
Having a subscription gives you access to the previous webinars as well as
the current ones.
They do offer the subscription at a savings around Black Friday as long as
you don’t have a current subscription

focus on the ones around writing, research, learning about y DNA.
